Diploma in Sports Coaching and Management

The Diploma is designed to produce well rounded sports coaches with in-depth theoretical & practical knowledge of sports instruction and management thereof.

The programme is registered with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education. It is a two year diploma offered in association with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). It runs on a block release model with lectures being conducted over two weeks every school holiday at the college premises. Through the school term, students are based at schools where they undertake coaching practice under the guidance of a qualified and experienced mentor. They are supervised & assessed by both Gateway staff & external assessors.

COURSE STRUCTURE
The two year diploma course is a block release model where the student attends two
week long block releases each school holiday and completes modules online. In the
period between the block releases the student is required to be based in a school
where the student is able to put into practice management, coaching and teaching
skills learnt. The Training College conducts supervisory visits during this time.

By the end of two years, students would have done at least four practical courses from the following list:

  • Cricket Basic level
  • Athletics level 1
  • Swimming Teachers’ Level 1.
  • Rugby IRB Level 1,
  • Hockey Elementary,
  • Tennis Basic Level,
  • Volleyball Basic Skills Course,
  • Soccer level 1

NB: Practical Courses will be offered by approved National or International sport association or body

Entry requirements:

5 ‘O’ levels including English, Mathematics and Science – with a grade C or better. Applications are to be accompanied by certified copies of school certificates and National I.D.
